Here is a column by a journalist in Kitsap who is so frustrated with the problems with squirrels in his feeders he offers up these recipes for squirrel dishes.

The first one is for a squirrel Alfredo dish

Here’s another shot of a determined squirrel. This guy actually climbed down another squirrel proof feeder to get to another feeder.

There’s barely room for him in this feeder. The irony is that the squirrel proof feeder seems to be working, but not so much that the squirrel couldn’t find his way INSIDE the window feeder. Persistence pays.

Here’s an interesting set of shots for a squirrel proof feeder that in hindsight was too close to the pole. Even though this was a Squirrel Buster feeder, which generally are pretty good, you can make them ineffectual with sloppy installations.

The photos here clearly show how flexible and determined a squirrel can be when you give them the slightest access to the feeder.

Keeping the squirrels out of your bird feeders is a tough assignment. There are many squirrel proof feeders available these days, but most of them work by limiting the physical access squirrels have to the feeder. Hot pepper suet feeders take a different approach that works surprisingly well.
